Is it wise to have the chicks vaccinated for marek's?

When we buy day olds from a hatchery we have them vaccinated for mareks. We have found a better survival rate with the Cornish Giants. We do not vaccinate our home-hatched chicks and haven't had a problem so far.

I do the same; vaccinate the hatchery birds and leave my own hatches to fend for themselves. I've lost two birds to Mareks. It is extremely common, but there is a wide range in susceptibilty and expression. Some infected birds die (often of starvation), some go blind, some recover, and some show no symptoms at all. I agree hatchery birds get mareks vaccine, all birds at home get the ILT.
