Still no eggs. :(
Now they have something to watch (and get worked up over) as the contractors put our new septic field in. The Jersey girls line up and watch the back hoe and bob cat moving dirt. I'm guessing they wishing for the worms and bugs.
but, no eggs/

I'm up to 16eggs a day, but ISA browns are supposedly egg laying machines... I am hoping for 18/day by Monday if the current trend of an additional egg every 3 days keeps working out...
Be patient and I am sure they will start laying soon.
I thought about adding Jersey Giants next year but after reading 6month wait times for the first egg I just cant justify the feed bill.
My chickens are livestock so they must earn thier keep...I might try and get a BJG roo though just to see what kind of offspring a ISA BrownXBJG would throw.
Are your birds doing the submissive squatting thing when you reach down to pet them, that was my first sign that eggs were coming....
3-4 days after the first squat I got my first egg....

UPDATE:woohoo:
We have eggs. Started slow with one. Then a "two egg day" and even a three egg day.
Now just to ensure they are warm, (the roost room is insulated, with a tarp door covering most of the doorway and lit for 14 hours a day) and fed (need to set up a second feeder as our second rooster has started crowing and we don't need rooster wars) and watered (the new tap off our house line is in to the barn (a vertical yard hydrant which isn't suppose to freeze) but it needs to be hooked up at the house end. Still hauling from the house.)
At least we have some yummy eggs. Not enough to sell or give away yet, but at least breakfast or supper every couple of days.
Not the egg lady yet, but the chickens redeemed themselves.
PS. The big addition the day of the first egg (which was in the middle of the coop floor), a milk crate with tall grass (aka hay) in it. All of the eggs except the first one, and one today have been in the crate. Need to empty another one in my hubby's workshop to become a second nest box as they don't seem to like the nest boxes that were in the roosting room. Fussy birds!

We have 35 elderly hens. Last week was a big week because we had 2 small eggs.

Are you by any chance hitting a warm spell? Because my hens did not lay until it was sunny and warmer out.
Now they lay even through the colder days!
