Re: Performance Poultry?

I was happy with my order last spring; I ordered 80 plus birds; didn't get my exact order but had a phone call from Jason and we worked out a plan that suited us both. Birds were all healthy. Lost 1 in transit and 1 few days later thought that was normal as I have had small losses with orders right here in Manitoba. Jason called a few weeks ago and asked me for a follow-up on my shipment; no other hatchery has ever done that.
Only complaint I had was I'd ordered 1 Buff orpington rooster who turned out to be a hen. Jason actually told me he knew I was wanting that rooster to get new bloodline and said he would give me one free next year. Not sure if I'll order next year though' as we have all our pens full now and I'd only be ordering a very small number; so not worth nthe trip into Winnipeg to pick them up.

Re: Performance Poultry?

i think that Performance was uneven last year. The actual pick up was fine, but I had waited till the end of May so that there would be Bourbon Reds, and up until the time I picked them up he said that I would be getting my 10. I got one.

The other factor for me would be the unevenness of the birds. None of them were exhibition  quality. Fine for utility. At best, out of 6 per breed, perhaps one would be close to standard. Healthy to be sure, but not the quality I had hoped for. So, my plan now is to search and search for the breeds I want, and to not be greedy with numbers. Slow growth. Quality. I want to improve the standard.

Hope to breed in 2010 Speckled Sussex, Buff Orpingtons, Light Sussex, & Bourbon Reds.

Re: Performance Poultry?

Leah there was a fairly recent thread with similar questions here and some reports of experiences http://www.punbb-hosting.com/forums/Alb … hp?id=5203 As always there are varying experiences with this hatchery.  What your expectations are and what you'd like the birds for may have a bearing on your experience too.  Personally, I plan to order from there again, have the last 2 years and I know others who wouldn't!

I adore my Blue Laced Red & Silver Penciled Wyandottes, Euskal Oiloas, Welsummers, Barnevelders, Sumatras, Silver Dorkings, Partridge Chanteclers,  EE Americaunas, Penedesencas, Blue Andalusians & Silkies, Lavender & Millie D'Uccles, Cuckoo Marans & Spangled Orloffs, Belted Galloways, Tetley the Border terrier, Henry my black cat, and still waiting for my three humane society barn cats.
