Canadian hatchery

I'm wondering what a good hatchery is in Canada that sells good quality breeds.
Day olds or eggs.
I am looking for heritage breeds:
Jersey Giants, Cornish and pretty much everything in my signature.

I hear so many names, but I want to know what one everyone thinks is best.

Breeding for 2010
Golden Laced polish, Silkies, OEGB, Buff orpingtons, Barred Rocks, RIRs, ameruacanas, Salmon Faverolles and Cuckoo Marans.  Mutts and crosses too.
Muscovies, Rouens, maybe snowy calls.

Re: Canadian hatchery

I just got some eggs in the mail from Eric at Preservation in Quebec.  Just got them into the bator yesterday so will be interesting to see what kind of hatch rate I get :praying:.  I got an assortment of eggs including 3 turkey eggs - went with the hatchery choice as his supply is a bit limited right now.  All were darker brown eggs and I am afraid that I had trouble reading Eric's pencil marks on the outside of the eggs.  Once I get a hatch :praying: I will be asking for help identifying.
Eggs arrived in good shape - one broken one but well packed and I imagine the one egg was from the Post Office throwing the box overhand instead of underhand as instructed!

Re: Canadian hatchery

Dom there are not a lot of hatcheries in Canada that do a variety of birds like you want. Performance is basically it and they import most of them I have read?
Look around to people here, I will have 3 varieties of wyandottes, I know Chickee's mom and a few others now will have Jersey giants. If you are looking for cornish you might have to do Performance or look to the US...

Breeding for 2009
Silver Laced, Blue Laced Red, and Gold Laced Wyandottes, Black Australorps, Ameraucana (Easter eggers), Speckled Sussex, Barred Rock, Rhode Island Reds, Blue Cochin, Black and Exchequer Leghorn, Buff Orpington, Salmon Faverolle. Pilgrim Geese, White and Brown Chinese Geese, Saxony, Rouen, Chocolate and Blue Muscovy Ducks, Call and Australian Spotted Ducks.

Re: Canadian hatchery

Does preservation stop shipping now though?
They have the breeds, but I can't seem to figure out if they ship now or not.

Do they sell eggs too?

Re: Canadian hatchery

We have several breeds of Wyandottes, but may only be breeding Columbians and Silver Laced next spring.  At that I'm not planning on keeping the Silver Laced.  We have some nice Light Brahmas that will be ready for breeding in the spring.

Highland Cattle, Dark Brahmas, Light Brahmas, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, Columbian Wyandottes, Gold Laced Wyandottes, Silver Penciled Wyandottes, Silver Laced Wyandottes, White Wyandottes

Re: Canadian hatchery

The web site is
http://www.preservation.ca
I just ordered eggs last week and they arrived yesterday.  Just send him an e-mail and he will send you an order form - it's a bit hard to understand but he was really quick in replying to me and fast to ship.  I have not checked to see if he has Jersey Giants or Cornish but I was looking for dark egg birds.

But did the eggs come in tact and was fertility still good in this colder weather?

Re: Canadian hatchery

Website works at the moment. I just got on using Ruths link.

Eric has been really good in our communication. I haven't ordered anything from him but we have talked a few times. If I need something he has I wont hesitate to email him.

Edit: Scratch that! I just lost it. Looks like it might be under construction or something similar. Not sure.

Re: Canadian hatchery

Site's not working for me either. I wonder if he's finally out of business. He mentioned that he was stopping the business and this was his last year. My pennys were a flop, but my marans are doing great. I haven't lost a single one.

White crested black polish, Black jersey giants, black copper and black marans available this spring. Maybe a few penedesencas as well.

Oh, I hope he is not quiting yet!
Does he ship chicks? our just eggs?
Right now I would rather find chicks from a hatchery.

Performance has what I want too, but does he ship this time of year?
