Check out http://www.cutlersupply.com for water heaters. They have one that uses a light bulb.
Note- this is not an endorsement of Cutler Supply as a source of supplies. I use them for products I can't find in Canada.

I found this idea last year http://www.punbb-hosting.com/forums/Alb … hp?id=1310
Here is the pic from that post
I have all the parts here to make one but bought an electric oil heater instead...looks like a radiator...so no fan kicking up dust....anyways it keeps the water from freezing.
If I had made this I would place it under a milk crate with a rubber thick rubber mat on top the crate and under the waterer.
I saw a water font heater but it was 70...too rich for me!

We make them Mello, we use galvanized oil pans, a porclin light socket and a 40-60 watt bulb. Works great. I made one last year as a prototype, hubby improved apon it and has make 4 so far and once I can get more oil pans will be making more. Costs much less then floating water heaters for in rubber tubs and less then heating a building. I will have one in each of my buildings this year, and I will have to see how they all work in the very frigid temps, might have to increase to a 100 watt but I doubt it.

Here is our style of water font heater bases. I made one last year, not quite as nice as this but same concept, worked great. Used a 60 watt bulb and worked even in -35 last year, we even use plastic water fonts with no issues. One problem I did have was the chickens discovered that it was a warm spot and would knock over the water font if it got too empty to sit on the heater.

It is a galvanized feed pan, porcelin socket with grounded plug, we also drilled a hole in the side so we can see that the light is still on and working, covered it with pexiglass to keep the heat it. We also have a tin cover that goes over the bottom to reflect heat up and also not cause any fire issues with the straw in the houses.

No pictures but here is my plan. I bought a whole bunch of dog waterers cheap last spring. I am going to get some tall plastic commercial ice cream buckets, drill holes around the rim, place a dog bowl upside down on the top and quickly invert them. Should work out as a nice heated fountain waterer.
