Just sort of caught an add on Global, never got all the info.
Looks like a Farm show in Edmonton, runs from tomorrow for the next 10 days.
Anyone else hear of this?
I will try to find out more and post it.

It runs in conjunction with CFR as far as I know. Never been to it but I hear it is along the same lines as Agribition.
Do you get the western producer, there was a write up in there about it.
It is called Farmfair International, here is a link for more information on it. http://www.northlands.com/farmfair-international
Here is a little bit on it.
Farmfair International entertains, educates and engages visitors with our beefed-up cattle shows and events, world class equine sales, competitions, and clinics, as well as variety of small and specialty livestock programs.

Sigh. There is nothing FARM left in it. It is all about big machinery. There used to be a really great poultry/cavy/rabbit show, durring the November Edm Exhibition, but that is all gone. So are goats, sheep, llamas, alpacas and exotice.
really it is down to big machinery, some cattle and fancy horses. NO draft horses or events anymore if I rememeber correctly.

Maybe WE need to change that?!

I think we do, as I recall they took the poultry out when the bird flu hit, and just never put it back in. As for the other animals I think it is the interest involved, I did read in the events there are some alpaca stuff going on, just need some people to push for it and I am sure they would open it up for all to come.

Thanks for the info. I'm not going to waste my weekend, (or brain cells trying to park) for something I'm not interested in.

I used to show Llamas and Alpacas at it. Then they closed that too. I didnt realize it was open again!
I contacted Northlands and got the royal runaround last year. I was hoping to find a contact for who was organizing and they never responede to any of my emails or phcalls. Yyes, the birds were dumped on the EXCUSE of Avian flu a few years ago, but really it is just not as profitable as giant tractors. Note that most (maybe all) of the home craft is also gone (Pickling, 4H projects, produce, etc etc etc.)
If we could get it going again I am ALL IN!

Well they stopped the poultry part because of Avian Flu and their concern that no one would come to the grounds.
I don't know if it's still there, but on the last Saturday is the stock dog finals and THAT is amazing to watch. I would drive up just for that!

Good luck changing anything hosted by Northlands. If it is not BIG MONEY they don't seem to have an interest.
(Do I sound a wee bit jaded there?)

Those of you living in Alberta need to come to Barriere for our farm show on the Labour Day weekend. Agriculture is front and centre at this show with chickens, turkeys ducks, cattle, horses and Mrs. Pickles pickles. There are some big farm machines here, too; but they don't hog the show.

I haven't been in quite a few years and was thinking to go next week. They are doing a goat gala and alpaca show...according the website " the United Nations has designated 2009 as the International Year of Natural Fibres"... So what happened to the sheep?
I was hopping to make some 'someday' contacts for Shetland sheep!
Last time I went there was all sorts of displays from tiniest rabbits to the biggest horses...now I'm not sure it's worth going to. Seeing the critters were going to be my way of bribing the kids into good behavior!
Here is their schedule on the official site: http://farmfairinternational.com/schedule Looks like Stock dogs are Tues and Wed.

I'm not going this year. We did enjoy the sheep shearing competition the year we did go.

There is alot more to that story-they didn't just cancel the show at northlands because of the bird flu! The fun seekers were in charge of that show and northlands increased their demands soo much, that continuing was next to impossible. Now I have been involved with northlands on the race horse end for years, they are not the brightest bunch sometimes and they are at the best of times quite set in their ideas and can't be pursuaded otherwise. There will never be another show at this venue again-and that's too bad there would be a high turnout of exhibitors and it would be close to home for most.
