JBL EON

Anyone use these speakers for monitors?  I am looking for a powered monitor that has a wider dispersion than say a 5" reference monitor that I am using now.  Actually two of them on my desktop.  I find that I have to stand in one place and I am able to hear things well.  I am looking for something that is a bit bigger that I can put on the floor in front of me.

I need it to be able to compete with a few guitars using 100 watt amps and 4x12 cabinets and a trap kit.  We don't play at extreme volumes but I need to be heard over the amps.  I am currently looking at something like the JBL EON 315.

I want it self powered if at all possible so I can just plug in into an audio out on my recording interface.  Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these or any other recommendations.

Thanks

Personally, I can't recommend the EON range at all. Everytime I hear acoustic guitars or voices played via these speakers they sound harsh and shrill. If you're looking for "something to hear yourself sing", they might do the job - at a relatively high price, though.
If you are looking for a speaker that sounds good, better try something else.
The RCF Art-Series sounds a lot better and might be even cheaper. Try to listen to ART310A and compare it to the JBLs...
Although it only has a 10" driver, it sounds quite full and can get really loud, just in case you need it.

Thanks. I'll see if I can find those here in Dallas somewhere.  I am also looking at Mackie and a Carvin unit as well.

Re: JBL EON

Well, I ended up with a QSC K12.  Once I heard it nothing else compared.  I will use it for a monitor for my practices and will use it as a main for another band I am in.   I'll just have to get another one soon.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention QSC :-)
The K12 is a good choice!

Re: JBL EON

For some reason my wife didn't think so late last night. :D

I am really impressed with the K12.  Can't wait to get another one and run them in stereo.
