Re: If you want to see birds dancing with the beat

Greetings all;
   This is specifically to thank Kathy Thompson for a post on 2 July '09 praising and recommending "This is Your Brain on Music" by Daniel Levitin, now at McGill University, I think.
So, I bought the book and "ate it up". I have shelves of books on music (read many) and even written a couple. This was just about the best book on music and singing I have ever read. Thanks Kathy. I think it was you who passed the word.
   I was thrilled by what I read and thoroughly engrossed. I have been "in music" for many decades, and in all that time absorbing what I  thought and read. My background and work in psychology had me asking many questions and theorizing as to why this or that took place, as well as trying different teaching methods to get through to people about music and singing to see what worked best to get the real facts as to what was good (and why) and what was 'bad" (and why). I happy to say that many of the notions I had about music and singing were made more clear by his writings. And I'm also glad that , in general, I was on the right track but couldn't really 'prove it' except by using what seemed to work and find that it did most of the time.
     I feel that Levitin and I are on similar tracks and I expect to enjoy many talks with him and perhaps a visit or two.
   If you really want to know what's going on and why, eat 'im up!. ......musiker
